Staff
There are approximately 52 staffs all over Vanuatu, however, our two main stations are located in Port Vila, Efate, and Luganville, Santo. Our outpost offices are located in Sola, Vanua Lava in the Banks islands, Lakatoro on Malekula, Lenakel on Tanna and Anelgauhat on Aneityum. The are the certified ports of entry.
Biosecurity Sections
There are 4 distinct sections under the department of Biosecurity Vanuatu. They are as follows:
- Administration The office of the Director of Biosecurity oversees the administration and management of the Department. This includes the management of our human resource and finances. Our administration also constitutes a Compliance Unit which is responsible for ensuring compliances in all areas of work in the department.
- Border Control Our Border Control section covers all our operations at the border including the Airports, Wharfs and Mails. It also includes our subsection purposely to oversee exports of Vanuatu products. Our objective under this section is to ensure Vanuatu borders are secured to prevent the entry and establishment of exotic plant, animal, and human pest and disease that could cause adverse effects on the environment as well as our citizens.
- Animal Health and Meat Inspection The Principal Veterinary officer oversees the responsibilities under this section. He is supported by two Senior Veterinary Officers and Meat Inspectors. This section works in collaboration with the department of Livestock in ensuring animal health and welfare are maintained. Our veterinary service ensures the effective management of zoonotic diseases, oversees our meat inspection service and market access. Our Meat Inspection service ensures that all traded meat products are handled according to national and international food safety requirements and are safe for human consumption.
- Plant Health Our Plant Health section is responsible for ensuring an effective surveillance and monitoring system of risk pests posing a threat to enter the borders of Vanuatu and management of pests and diseases of plants already present in Vanuatu. This section is also responsible for conducting import risk assessments (IRA) and pest risk analysis (PRA) of goods intended to be import to Vanuatu.
